This Saturday we return to HWK, next to Hackney Wick Station, for another REVIVEHER take over. “Booze To The Groove” and “Eat To The Beat”, at our very own “Sit Down Dance”, with special guest DJs “Ray Mang (Mangled / DFA)” and “Kristy Harper (Let’s Play House)”, joining residents Bi-Bop and Will Best throughout the day.
The last party we did there during Bank Holiday August with Nick The Record, was a much needed chance to let off steam, post lockdown. We were a full house from 6pm; Nick slayed his set and, in the context of socially distanced discos, it’s safe to say it kicked off.!
Just over a month on and 2020 has thrown us another curveball, with the 10pm curfew and strict table service. BUT, just because we can’t pile onto the dancefloor, it doesn’t mean we can’t experience great music, the way it’s meant to be heard - on a proper system, with drinks in hands and friends nearby!
We want this to feel as close to the real thing as possible: a great vibe, killer guest DJs and high-end sound from East London Audio. There’s also a huge, new roof covering the terrace with drop down electric heating over the tables, our gigantic mirrorball installed, a fancy lighting rig and so on, so that we can play whatever the weather and still make you feel like you’re on the dancefloor.
This one isn’t to be missed! So, as capacity is now further limited than before, just book a table for the cost of a few pre-paid drinks to secure a spot for the whole afternoon, evening or the opton of the whole day! There will be some tables available on the door, but we advise reserving in advance for the best seats and a weather-proof, sit down, all day boogie!
★ Reserving A Table Via Resident Advisor ★
The new rules mean capacity is limited and with long queues to get into our last party, we advise that you reserve in advance to guarantee your table for a fixed amount of time. Plus, we’ll chuck in a few drinks each.
You can make reservations for groups of 4 or 6 with a single transaction covering the whole table.* So, grab your crew in advance and buy a ticket for your appropriate group size via RA
You can reserve a table in 2 different areas of the space: Dancefloor Table (still seated, obvs, but more in the thick of things and well heated); Gazebo (a bit quieter / more private and heated). There’s also the front terrace tables, which aren’t covered or heated. They’ll be available on the door. So, if you want a prime spot, secure your table and slot on RA now!
The booking slots are as follows**:
. 1pm – 6pm / £10 per person / includes any two drinks from the menu each
. 6pm – 10pm / £10 per person / includes any one drink from the menu each
. 1pm – 10pm / £20 per person / includes three drinks from the menu each
*Note: We are unable to move tables together and can’t allow guests from different tables to join together. Please book a single table of the appropriate size for your group. Don’t arrange to meet in groups larger than your table allows.*
** You must arrive by 2.30pm to keep your 1pm – 6pm booking (3 if you’ve got the table till 10); and before 7pm to keep your 6pm – 10pm booking.**
★ The DJs ★
★ Ray Mang (DFA / Mangled) ★
Ray Mang typifies a REVIVEHER legend and is the perfect choice to juxtapose with the younger talent and eclecticism of Kristy Harper.
The first thing that strikes music aficionados about Raj Gupta, is his excessive back catalogue of productions. With 3 albums and over 30 original releases to his name, either under his “Ray Mang” alias, as “Raj Gupta”, “Laj”, “Mang Dynasty (his project with Bill Brewster); or in bands “Block 16” and “Motif” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBRd-pJNrb0), spanning 3 decades, then it’s fair to say Ray Mang is a prolific and well respected producer, as well as musician and DJ.
He landed his first 12” ‘Number One’ in 1996 on Idjut Boys’ Noid Recordings, which gained widespread support in the clubs and on compilations. He has taken that wonky party sound and kept it moving on ever since, straddling the genres of disco, boogie, house, nu-disco and balearic to aplomb!
He launched his own label Mangled in ’98, which has since been a go to for his own output.
Well-known Mang hits include, DFA’s ,‘Bullet Proof’ EP featuring Lady Miss Kier, a disco-house reimagining of a P-funk classic; and the blissed-out Balearic gem ‘Look Into My Eyes’ (sampling Tangerine Dream’s soundtrack for the film Risky Business), which instantly became a firm favourite for many. The latter was re-released with his first ever track (Number One), on Ray’s Mangled label in 2018 as one heavyweight 12”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ZBhFVTAUPA
His recent remix for Phenomenal Handclap Band’s “Judge Not” in 2018 on label Toy Tonics, which was re-released with Special versions this year, has also received widespread radio and club support, finding its way straight into many great DJs bags: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDE_PdjrdJ8
In all his guises Ray Mang is one of the most prolific contributors to the UK disco/house canon. It’s no surprise then, that he has racked up countless relases and remixes on labels from iconic independents such as Nuphonic, R&S, Eskimo, Leng, Claremont 56, Is It Balearic, Toy Tonics, Nang, ESP Institute, DFA, Defected, XL to major players such as Virgin, EMI and Columbia.
As a remixer, his phone never stops ringing. He’s notched up over 100 credits for huge bands and artists such as Gorillaz, Shirley Bassey, Beck, Roxy Music / Bryan Ferry, Doves, Freddie Mercury, Calvin Harris, Bloc Party, Munk, Friendly Fires; to the more discerning likes of Jacques Renault, Classixx, Dmitri From Paris, Phenomenal Handclap Band; to reworking cult dance classics by the likes of S-Express, Daniel Grau & Los Amigos Invisibles, Arbeid Abelt and West Philips, to name just a few. Forthcoming remixes include Roxy Music, Bryan Ferry, Chris Coco, FSQ, Cho & Random Impetus, HMD, and many more.
His music receives regular radio and DJ support from lesser known names such as Felix Dickinson, Tim Sweeney, Eric Duncan to well-established names like Francois Kevorkian, Gilles Peterson, DJ Harvey, Danny Krivit, Optimo, Horse Meat Disco and Radio stalwarts Trevor Nelson, Craig Charles and Lauren Lavern to name but a few.
Having built up such a reputation over the decades, Ray Mang is a globe-trotting DJ that plays overseas more than he does in his native UK and London, taking in sets at festivals, clubs, pools, boats, rooftops and beaches, in some of the most beautiful locations around the world. He’s most loved in Japan, where his career has been studied by disco fans and clubbers alike; he’s also a regular at Love International Festival and Mareh Festival in Brazil.
His incendiary sets blend house, disco, boogie, cosmic, balearic, latin, afro and his own edits and unreleased material all in one! Ray plays 5pm – 8pm. Don’t miss it!
★ Kristy Harper (Let’s Play House) ★
Kristy has fast become a name on musos’ lips over the past 12 months. With a keen love for vinyl, she’s managed to demonstrate her full spectrum of musical knowledge through her regular all-night long vinyl sets at Brilliant Corners and her shows on Operator Radio (Rotterdam) and Netil Radio (London).
This led to stand out club and festival appearances across Europe and Asia in 2019 such as Magnetic Fields, Snowbombing, Houghton and Love International.
Kristy is also making waves in the producer world, with debut track ‘Uncle Jungle’, featured as part of the ‘Dialogues’ VA on Monologues Records, just last October. The EP vividly represents her eclectic DJ sets, blending disco, house and Latin elements. The track and subsequent EP on the same label racked up support from some of Kristy’s biggest influencers. One of them, being previous REVIVEHER guest and collaborator, Jacques Renault, who in turn, signed her up to his Let’s Play House label, where she released an acid and Italo dance floor belter on his LPH White imprint earlier this year.
That release further catapulted her in to the spotlight, with support from Radio 1, Rinse FM and Ministry of Sound, plus playlist and radio plays from acclaimed producers like Mele, Hot Since 82, CC:Disco!, Move D, Call Super, Alison Swing, Dave Harvey and PBR Streetgang. She’s following this up with a full EP for the label later this year.
While her club sets centre around house, Italo and acid, Kristy will be digging deep to play a wide-ranging set of daytime sounds between 1pm and 5pm in an exclusive 4-hour set. Make sure to book a table for the full day or the earlier slot if you want to catch this super talented selector on the rise.
