Following a sold-out show at the Barbican last year, Italian composer Alessandro Cortini joins us at the historic BFI to perform a live AV show of his critically acclaimed new album on Mute, Volume Massimo.
Both in his solo work and as a member of Nine Inch Nails, Cortini’s music casts the listener into a vortex of emotive dynamics, where he expertly maximizes the boundaries of contemporary electronic music and dissonance.
His new album combines his fondness for melody with the rigor of experimental practice, journeying into a meditative process with an ensemble of synthesizers saturated with sonic artefacts. It is in this sense that Volume Massimo departs from a conceptual hierarchy and aims for the heart with a minimalist’s arrow.
