As SEQUENCE continues with installment 446 as we are reminded of what makes techno a genre of constant renewal, immediacy, energy, and youth.
If ever a current artist combined these terms cohesively it would be I Hate Models. In a little less than two years, the Paris-born anonymous artist took the techno world by storm with releases of aggressive industrial-leaning techno. Although his tracks feature aggressive aspects, they are followed by daydream euphoria, reminiscent of early trance and thus landing during a(nother) halcyon revival of warehouse chic. While his tracks possess a certain pastiche, the SEQUENCE crew found it irresistible when combined with the typical warehouse fodder. It took a member witnessing I Hate Models in person before the crew realized his art was no passing fad. When the opportunity came, SEQUENCE jumped on the booking and now almost a year later, the day is finally here. Now could not be better time for an artist like I Hate Models to bring his talents to the District through the attentive, rave-or-die SEQUENCE crew.
It’s with this meticulousness that we selected support that could rise to both I Hate Models' talent and energy. First, we are extremely pleased to welcome Katie Rex of Bound NYC fame back to DC. Rex has had a wild journey since her last appearance in the District in front of an industrial mixer in the steamy summer of 2017. We know she will more than rise to the task again for our first function of 2019.
Next up we have another New Yorker whose given our DC community her presence, energy, and support for many years: DJ and producer Jett Chandon; making her SEQUENCE return after setting the table for the glorious Discwoman x SEQUENCE night. In short order, Jett’s become a featured resident at DC’s ROAM parties, established a monthly in NYC with Echo Response, and is anxiously awaiting the release of her first EP.
Lastly, is our own bionic superhuman Juana whose DJ career catapulted from her appearance alongside the Discwoman crew almost exactly two years prior. As a result, you do not, in any manner, want to miss this night as we welcome back old friends, make new ones and send you off into the morning DC sun a beat and battered soul with future warehouse memories.
