Lasermagnetic has been throwing Bank Holiday parties for many years now, with artists like the Idjut Boys, Darshan from Metro Area, Mark Seven, Chromatics live, Andrew Weatherall, Lindstroem & Prins Thomas and many more joining their party.
This Carnival Bank Holiday is no exception and we have decided to link up with East London's members bar & club 'The East Rooms' (who hosted the backstage areas at the Big Chil and 1234 Shoreditch festival) to bring you a 5 room event, whilst maintaining an intimate and fun vibe on each floor.
Rooftop Carnival Bar Things kick off at 4pm on the rooftop bar with a FREE carnival BBQ washed down with plenty of Red Stripe and carnival sized Ma-hoo-sive Mojitos in the Bank Holiday sunshine. Balearic scenes with Phil Mison (Reverso 68/Cantoma/Cafe Del Mar) and the fantastic Paul 'Mudd' Murphy of Claremont 56.
As the sun sets over the Travelodge look out for a cloud of Sky Lanterns floating into the night. We loved them so much at The Big Chill festival that we've brought back a boatload of them and we'll be letting them all go into the sky sometime after 9pm.
:: REGGAE SOUNDSYSTEM ::
For a true carnival vibe we have the Rootikal Sound system rattling the glassware in the lounge with their heavy reggae basslines. We welcome Ashley Beedle (Xpress-2), Stuart Patterson (Faith) and Dave Hill (Ballistic Brothers / Nuphonic) & Faso for an all day, late night deep reggae pounding. We're giving the sound in the lounge an extra boost for the weekend to max the riddim and we'll be rolling back the roof over The East Room terrace to make the most of the Jamaican sunshine. Rum's the thing to be drinking in the Rootikal lounge, so make sure you get stuck into a Carnival East Room Punch, grab yourself some spicy Jerk Chicken from our reggae barbecue and things get rolling from around 6pm.
:: CARNIVAL DISCO ::
After the sun sets the carnival procession moves downstairs into Sosho for exclusive shows from Gerry Rooney and Rahaan. Gerry Rooney is DJ Harvey's other half in the cult Black Cock records and forerunner of the re-edit disco revival. Rahaan is over from Chicago for the weekend and Carnival East is the only place you can catch him. We saw him destroy Revolver (our favourite club) in Melbourne when we were out in Australia earlier this year, and we're really looking forward to his serious Chicago house and disco wreak havoc with Sosho's Funktion One sound. Disco and balloon quality control is handled by the amazing Deepfrequency radio guys who also produce David Mancuso's London Loft parties.
We'll be filling Sosho with the true spirit of disco with giant daybeds, face painting, rave upgrades for all of our favourite drinks, the return of the sleazy Sosho Darkroom, extra lights, lots of smoke and mirror balls and 10,000 helium filled balloons.
:: LATE NIGHT LOCK-IN ::
Everyone knows the best carnival after parties are in the basement bars, cafes and record shops hidden away around Ladbroke Grove and Portobello Road. Down in the Sosho basement we have Lazy Dog and Buzzin Fly resident Chris Woodward sharing the decks with Alex Santos and Hugo Barritt. We'll be opening the basement up at around midnight and dancing on the tables till 6am. Make sure you grab one of our carnival recovery kits on your way out; a bottle of water, a tube map and the cheapest pairs of sunglasses we can find.
Carnival East is hosted by Lasermagnetic and our friends Rootikal & Deepfrequency. Lasermagnetic has been touring through Japan, China & Turkey earlier this year and also held a great three month residency in Australia. Johnny Chingas rocked us on Saturday night at the Big Chill festival. You can catch Johnny's online show on Deep Frequency every other Thursdays from 10pm, his latest show features a great interview and mix from Rahaan, click here to check it out! Check the Deep Frequency Archives for more mixes and interviews!
See you on the 30th of August! :)
