With our party at Sonar we are celebrating the 8th anniversary of our label. 8 years of SUOL! Doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun? Looks like a little recap of how it all began is in order...
Back in the day when our label heads Chopstick & Johnjon were sending out their tunes to labels and kept on getting replies from A&R people asking them to make changes to their music, the idea to start a label was formed. Their very own label where they would be free to release their music exactly how they wanted it. So, in 2004 they founded Criminal Records. In 2007 they moved on and started the club Baalsaal in Hamburg and also the Baalsaal label. When that was over they made the decision for a third and final go at their own imprint, and in 2010 SUOL was born.
It was a bold move to have a third baby in tough times. And now it has already been 8 years – which should probably be counted in dog years in times where most indie labels manage to keep going for maybe 3 years at best, so multiply that by 7 and… never mind, we are not thinking about retirement just yet. Instead, we are going to throw a party and rejoice at the fact that we have managed to stay in this business for so long by consistently releasing quality music by amazing artists and we will continue to do just that.
And at this party there will be a lot more going on than nostalgic chin stroking and patting each other on the back. We are going to celebrate in style at Warehouse1, showcasing the SUOL style with an amazing line up. Chopstick & Johnjon will be joined by San Soda, DJ Boring, Till Von Sein and Meggy, and they will be bringing some of the finest soulful House music from Berlin and beyond to Barcelona. Cheers!
