Meet Dj Schwa.
For years and years he has stirred the wheels of Prague’s underground scene as a DJ, producer and promoter of the Komiks events. You might also have come across Schwa’s acid infused EPs and remixes under his label Beef Records and other heavy weights such as Compost Black, RFR, XLR8R, Flight Recorder, Otake, Step and Large.
Michal was born in the mid '80s into musical family with apartment right above the legendary ORM studio Prague (founded by Michal’s father Pavel). ORM is a studio where the first Czech electronic music as well as essential pop hits and film scores were produced. In early ‘00s ORM studio’s recording room full of vintage analogue instruments sparks Michal’s love for all things electronic – mainly for computer and drum machine programmed beats. Around this time Schwa visits first techno raves around Prague which initiates obsession with djing and collecting early acid trance. Soon after Michal starts his own label and experiments with music production. Around this time Michal also starts working as sound engineer.
Between 2006 and 2014 Michal lives Sydney, Australia. At this time, he is already djing professionally, holds residency at Sydney’s afterhours club Spice and often tours Asia. On top of his busy schedule, DJ Mag UK rated him in the top 50 albums of 2012 for album album “Soul Machine” produced with his friend Nick West under their “Shades of Gray” moniker. In 2015 Michal starts running Prague based warehouse rave Komiks together with local jocks Fatty M and Lumiere. Komiks are alternative rave parties using the old industrial warehouses packed with art installations and experimental lighting where ravers can experience real sweaty dancefloor action and rather surreal atmosphere while being open to all genders, sex, age and politics. Komiks has hosted many legendary acts such as Derrick May, Omar S, Robert Hood, Kink, Marcel Dettmann, Steffi, Bjarki, Bambounou, David August, Tornado Wallace, Palms Trax, San Proper, Moscoman, Vakula and many more. In 2019 Michal did a Boiler Room appearance with Tommy Four Seven, Anthea and Fatty M.
Through his studio production work, label and parties, Schwa’s music selection grew into a large, passionate and open-minded collection. His passion encompasses all aspects of music ranging from house, tribal to electro, acid, electronica and all the way up to heavy rave music. There are few boundaries. The music he serves up comes from a place of love, joy and knowledge.
