Biography

  • Record digger and versatile DJ, Javi Bayo has been an active member of the Spanish underground scene for over 18 years, being responsible for some of the best clubnights in Madrid when it comes to deep soulful sounds.
    Record collector for over 20 years, Javi started his DJ career in the early 90s in the north of Spain. He later moved to London where he continued playing regularly at clubs like Notting Hill Arts Club, Dragon Bar, The Clinic, etc. Javi Bayo settled down in Madrid in 2003 and since then has been deeply involved in the local music scene as promoter, journalist and resident DJ at the most exciting nights around the jazz, funk, boogie or even electronic soulful sounds. In over 18 years of career, Javi has proven himself a versatile DJ by playing top sets along the likes of Danny Krivit, DJ Spinna, Antal, Tako, Bradley Zero, Simbad, Flying Lotus, Dorian Concept, Onra, Funkineven, Mark Pritchard, Taylor McFerrin, Andy Smith, Hiroko Otsuka, Perry Louis, Paul Murphy, Patrick Forge, Mr Fine Wine... His Danzz club was pioneer in setting up the grounds for the local jazzdance scene in Spain. Javi Bayo has spent many years tracking down some of the most desirable Spanish jazz gems and unearthing forgotten recordings from the 60s-70s. The highly acclaimed compilation 'Fetén' (Vampisoul Records 2012) is the result of this research work. He has also directed the reissue of Pedro Iturralde´s 'Jazz Flamenco' (Vampisoul 2013) and Bruce & Vlady 'Reality' (Vampisoul 2015), and has just started a new series of DJ oriented 45s that reached #1 in the sales chart of well known record stores worldwide: Juno, Jet Set, Disk Union...
