  • Laissez Faire is the latest addition to New York nightlife. Housed in the basement of the Beekman Hotel in Manhattan's Financial District, the 180-person venue calls itself a contemporary iteration of the classic hotel nightclub. It features one large room with a converted boiler room. Called The Oval, this space acts as a "club-within-a-club," according to the founders, fitting just 30 people. There's a hand-painted four-point Danley sound system and a Portman Hexaline Grid lighting system over the dance floor, both curated by Nicolas Matar and Scott Ciungan of Phonic Technologies, who were behind iconic New York clubs Cielo and Output. Local house music duo Musclecars will play Laissez Faire's opening party on Thursday, September 7th. O.BEE, Tomas Station, Shubostar, Moscoman, Justin Strauss and Dr Dunks, among others, are expected to DJ in the coming weeks. The concept behind Laissez Faire is "the future of old New York," explained the founders. This is their second club after opening Outer Heaven in downtown Manhattan earlier this year. "The experience, from the moment you walk down Theatre Alley, flanked by skyscrapers on either side, feels so specific to our city that it reads like a love-letter to our home in many respects, and an idyllic imagining of eras past," they added. Here are some more photos of Laissez Faire. For more details, visit the official website.
